Charity organises half term animal fun

Visually impaired children have fun meeting the animals

Southend in Sight organised for 9 families with visually impaired children to meet a variety of animals during February half term.

The children were invited to become ‘Exotic Explorers’ for the afternoon – handling, stroking and learning all about the characteristics of different animals ranging from salamanders to a chinchilla, a skunk, some chickens, a tortoise, a hedgehog and a snake.

Community Engagement Officer Georgie said “it was lovely to see the children grow in confidence with each animal, becoming more eager to hold them. They asked some in depth questions about the animals too and really enjoyed their afternoon.”
